How to merge PDF files
- Drop two or more PDF files into the box above, or click it to choose them.
- Set the order with the arrow buttons, by dragging the handle, or with Sort by name.
- Optionally type the pages you want from each file.
- Download
merged.pdf. It updates automatically whenever you change the list.
The files are read once when you add them, so reordering and changing page ranges is
quick even with long documents. Sorting by name understands numbers:
part-2.pdf comes before part-10.pdf.
Take exactly the pages you need
Every file in the list has its own Pages box. Leave it empty to include the whole document, or combine single pages and ranges, separated by commas:
| You type | Pages included |
|---|---|
1-3, 7 | 1, 2, 3 and 7 |
5- | Page 5 to the last page |
-2 | Pages 1 and 2 |
10-8 | 10, 9 and 8, in that order |
2, 2 | Page 2 twice |
That covers the common jobs: dropping the cover page from a report, pulling the signed page out of a contract, or putting a statement's summary page in front of the details. If a range asks for a page the file doesn't have, the box is highlighted and the tool tells you how many pages the file really has.
Bookmarks where each file starts
A merged PDF of ten documents is hard to navigate as one long scroll. With Add a bookmark where each file starts ticked, the new PDF gets a bookmark named after each original file, pointing to its first page, and opens with the bookmark panel visible in readers that support it — Adobe Acrobat, Preview on Mac, and the PDF viewers built into Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
Printing double-sided
When a merged PDF goes to a duplex printer, a document with an odd number of pages leaves the next document starting on the back of its last sheet. The blank page option adds a single empty page after each file that needs one — matching that file's page size — so every document begins on a new sheet and can be pulled apart after printing.
Quality stays exactly the same
Merging here copies each page object into the new file. Nothing is converted to an image or re-compressed, so text remains selectable and searchable, vector drawings stay sharp at any zoom, and the merged file is about the size of the originals added together. Page sizes and rotation are kept, so a landscape spreadsheet page stays landscape next to portrait letters.
Links, bookmarks and form fields
Links to websites keep working. Links that jump within a document — a table of contents, "see page 12", a "back to top" link — are re-pointed at the same page in the merged file, even after you reorder files or leave pages out. A link whose target page you didn't include simply stops doing anything. This also keeps the file small: when you take one page from a long report, only that page ends up in the merged PDF, rather than the rest of the report being carried along through its internal links.
Bookmarks stored in the original files are not copied; tick the bookmark option to get one per file instead. Filled-in form values stay visible on the page, but the fields can no longer be edited in the merged file, so finish filling in forms first.
Password-protected PDFs can't be merged, because their pages are encrypted and this tool does not remove passwords. The file is skipped with a message and the rest of the list still merges.
Nothing is uploaded
The best-known PDF sites merge on their servers, which means uploading every file and trusting that it is deleted afterwards. This tool reads and combines the PDFs inside your browser tab. Your documents never leave your device, there is no account and no watermark, and there is no daily limit on how many times you can use it.
