The short version
The files you open in our tools are never uploaded. All processing happens inside your browser on your own device. We cannot see your files, we do not receive them, and we do not store them.
What we do not collect
- The files you compress, convert or edit, or anything derived from them
- File names, file contents, image data or metadata
- Accounts, passwords or payment details — the tools require no sign-up
What is collected
Analytics
We record aggregate usage — which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from, and which browser and device type they use — so we know which tools to improve and which to build next. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify individuals.
We also count how tools are used: that a file was chosen, how many and of which type (for example "2 PNG files"), whether a result was downloaded, and whether a tool reported an error. The names and contents of your files, and anything you type into a tool, are never included.
Advertising
This site displays advertising served by third-party providers, including Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Local storage
Some tools remember your preferences — a chosen output format or target size, for example — using your browser's local storage. This stays on your device, is never transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time through your browser's site data settings.
Visitors from the EEA, UK and California
Where required, a consent notice is shown before non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies, are set. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time through the same notice. Because we do not collect personal data beyond what is described above, requests to access or delete personal data will generally return nothing beyond aggregate analytics.
Our own internal tools and Google account access
Separately from this website, the Filewhisk team runs a small private application on its own computers to manage the site. It signs in with our own Google account and is used for two things: reading Search Console statistics for Filewhisk (which search queries show our pages, and where they rank), and reading and sending mail for our own contact address.
This application is private and not offered to anyone else. It holds no data belonging to visitors of this site, because no visitor data ever reaches us in the first place: your files are processed in your browser and never uploaded. The Google data it reads stays on our own machines, is used only to run and improve Filewhisk, and is never sold or shared. Access can be withdrawn at any time from the Google account's security settings, which removes the application's permission immediately.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page is updated. Material changes will be noted on the site.
