Crop PDF pages

Drop a PDF here

or click to choose — no page limit, nothing is uploaded

Crop every page of a PDF the same way, or just one page, by dragging a box on the preview or typing the margins in millimetres. Trim white margins finds the edges of the content on each page by itself, which helps for reading on a phone or e-reader. Text and links stay sharp and selectable. Cropping a PDF normally only hides what is outside the box, so the page tells you how many characters of cut-off text are still in the file, and can delete them for good if you need it to. Nothing is uploaded.

How to crop a PDF

  1. Drop the PDF. The first page appears as a preview.
  2. Drag a box over the part you want to keep, or type the margins to cut off in millimetres. The kept part stays bright, the rest is darkened.
  3. Choose Every page the same or Only this page, and use the arrows to check other pages.
  4. Press Crop PDF and download it.

Margins typed in millimetres are applied in millimetres on every page, so a document that mixes A4 and Letter pages, or has a page turned sideways, loses the same strip everywhere. A box drawn with the mouse is applied in proportion to each page.

Trim the white margins automatically

Trim white margins looks at each page separately and crops it to where the content starts and ends, leaving a thin border. This is the quick way to make a scanned book or a paper with wide margins readable on a phone, tablet or e-reader, where every millimetre of margin makes the text smaller. Because each page gets its own crop, a chapter opening that starts halfway down is not squeezed to fit the others. Blank pages are left as they are. Page numbers, headers and faint lines near the edge count as content, so look through the pages before saving.

Cropping hides, it does not delete

A PDF crop changes the visible area of the page. Everything outside it is still in the file: anyone can copy it, search it, or reset the crop in a PDF editor and see the whole page again. We tested this with a three-page A4 document that had an account number in the header and a page footer, cropping 40 mm off the top and bottom (Chrome on Windows, 18 October 2026):

CropCut-off text still in the fileFile size
Normal cropYes: 1,309 characters across the three pages, including the account number, which a standard PDF library (pypdf) printed straight back out3.4 KB, the same as before
Delete what is cut off for goodNo: the word did not appear anywhere in the file’s bytes773 KB

That is why the result tells you how many characters of text lie outside your crop. If the cut-off part holds anything you don’t want to share, tick Delete what is cut off for good. The cropped pages are then redrawn as 200 dpi images that contain only the part you kept, in a new file. The price: their text can no longer be selected or searched, links on them stop working, and a text-only PDF becomes much larger, as the table shows. For blacking out a few words inside the page rather than cutting the edges off, cropping is the wrong tool altogether.

Why the cut-off parts stay hidden everywhere

A page in a PDF has several boxes. Many tools only move the crop box, which viewers respect, but some printing paths and programs size the page by the media box, the full sheet, and show the cut-off parts again. This tool sets both to the area you chose and removes the old trim and bleed boxes, so the page is the same size in every viewer and prints at that size. Links, bookmarks and form fields inside the kept area keep working.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a PDF?

Drop the PDF, then drag a box over the part of the page you want to keep, or type how many millimetres to cut off each side. Choose Every page the same or Only this page, press Crop PDF and download the result. The preview shows the kept area bright and the rest darkened.

Does cropping a PDF delete what is cut off?

Normally no. A crop sets a smaller visible area on the page, and everything outside it stays in the file: text can still be copied, searched or brought back with a PDF editor. In our test, an account number in a cropped-off page header was still in the file and a standard PDF library printed it straight back out. To really remove it, tick Delete what is cut off for good; cropped pages are then redrawn as images containing only the part you kept.

How do I remove white margins from a PDF?

Press Trim white margins. Every page is checked separately and cropped to its content with a small border, so pages with different layouts each get the right crop. Blank pages are left alone. Check a few pages with the arrows before saving; a page number or a faint line near the edge counts as content.

Will the text still be selectable after cropping?

Yes, with a normal crop. Only the page size changes; the text, fonts, links, bookmarks and form fields are untouched. The delete-for-good option is the exception: it turns cropped pages into images, so their text can't be selected or searched afterwards.

Can I crop just one page?

Yes. Go to the page with the arrows, choose Only this page and draw the box. Other pages keep their own crop or none. A page with a different crop simply comes out a different size.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened, previewed and cropped in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib. It never leaves your device, and there is no page or size limit.
