or click to choose — 1920 px wide or more gives the sharpest banners

A Discord server banner is 960×540 pixels (16:9) and a profile banner is 680×240. Drop one image, drag the focal point onto what must stay visible, and both files come out of the same crop. The profile preview marks the middle 600×240 too, because Discord’s own help pages still quote two different sizes. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

The server banner sits at the top of the channel list and on the server’s profile. The profile banner is the strip above your avatar when someone opens your profile. They are very different shapes, so one picture rarely fits both without a separate crop for each; this tool makes both from the same focal point in one download.

600×240 or 680×240? Discord says both

Search for the profile banner size and half the guides say 600×240, the other half 680×240. Both numbers come from Discord. We read the two help centre articles on 1 October 2026:

Discord help articleWhat it says
Custom Profiles (updated 11 March 2026)“minimum dimensions of 680×240 pixels”
Per-Server Profiles“The recommended minimum size is 600x240”

The newer article asks for the wider image, and a 680-pixel banner meets both minimums, while a 600-pixel one falls short of the newer. So this tool makes 680×240. In the preview, the dashed box marks the middle 600×240: keep a face or a name inside it and it stays whole even if an app trims the banner to the older shape. The extra 40 pixels on each side should be background that can be lost.

Before you design: what Discord asks for

  • No logo or text in the server banner. Discord’s own guidelines say to avoid both and to use an image that represents your game or brand. The server name is already printed over the banner, and lettering gets small once the banner is scaled into the channel list.
  • At least 960×540 for the server. A smaller image is enlarged and looks soft. A 1920×1080 upload is fine; Discord scales it down for you.
  • Animated banners play for five seconds, then stop. Discord says an animated server banner plays when the server first loads and then pauses, so the frame that matters should come first. If boosts drop the server to Level 2, the same file shows as a still.
  • Profile banners: PNG, JPG or animated GIF, under 10 MB. After uploading, Discord offers its own crop step; a file that is already the right shape needs no adjustment there.

How to make both banners from one picture

  1. Drop an image above, ideally at least 1920 px wide.
  2. Drag inside the preview onto the part that has to stay visible. Both crops are built around that point, so a subject standing off-centre still makes it into the narrow profile strip.
  3. Switch between the two sizes in the list to check each crop, zoom if the subject is too small, and download: one ZIP with both banners, or a single file if you keep only one size selected.

Need other platforms from the same picture? The social media image resizer has the Discord sizes alongside Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn and Facebook. For images you want to send in a chat rather than set as a banner, compress image for Discord keeps them quick to load.

Nothing is uploaded

Cropping and resizing run in your browser with the canvas API. The image never leaves your device, and there is no account, watermark or size limit beyond what your device can handle.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Discord server banner?

960x540 pixels, a 16:9 aspect ratio. Discord's help centre asks for an image or GIF that is at least 960x540, and says a 1920x1080 upload is resized for you, so either works. An image of any other shape has to lose its edges to become 16:9, so it is better to choose which edges yourself.

What size is a Discord profile banner: 600x240 or 680x240?

Discord's own help pages disagree. The Custom Profiles article, updated in March 2026, asks for at least 680x240 pixels; the Per-Server Profiles article still recommends a minimum of 600x240. This tool makes the banner 680x240 and marks the middle 600x240 in the preview, so a name or a face placed inside that box survives whichever crop your app applies.

Who can upload a banner?

A server banner needs Server Boost Level 2; an animated one needs Level 3. Discord Partner servers get the banner without boosting. A profile banner, still or animated, is a Nitro feature. Without them, the upload option simply does not appear.

How long does an animated server banner play?

According to Discord, an animated banner plays for five seconds when the server first loads and then pauses. Put the moment that matters at the start. If the server drops from Level 3 to Level 2, the same file is shown as a still image. This tool makes still JPEG banners; for a moving one you need a GIF of the same 16:9 shape.

Should I put my server name or logo in the banner?

Discord's banner guidelines say to avoid images with a logo or text in them and to use an image that represents your game or brand instead. The server name is already printed over the banner in the channel list, and small lettering in a 960-pixel-wide image becomes hard to read once the app scales it down.

What file types and sizes does Discord accept?

Profile banners must be PNG, JPG or animated GIF and under 10 MB. Server banners accept an image or a GIF. This tool exports high-quality JPEG files, which come out far below those limits at these sizes.

Is my image uploaded to make the banner?

No. The crop and resize happen in your browser with the canvas API, so the image never leaves your device. There is no account, no watermark and no file size limit beyond what your device can handle.
